Two exhibitions are taking place simultaneously in Marseille to introduce the public to the exuberant and symbolist works of artist Jean-Jacques Surian at the Musée Regards de Provence and at “La Cabine de L’Ar(t)mateur,” the new contemporary art gallery, from October to March 2025. Nearly 150 paintings by the Marseille-born painter and ceramist will be displayed a few meters apart, offering visitors an artistic journey along the quays. His works, characterized by a juxtaposition of whimsical figures and motifs, blend sensuality, nostalgia, and a bittersweet critique of society. In this two-part retrospective, Marfret has chosen to showcase the artist’s perspective through the lens of exploring the port city.
Inaugurated last June with the exhibition “42 Days” by Yvan Salomone, the art gallery named “La Cabine de L’Ar(t)mateur,” following a vote by employees, is adjacent to the company’s headquarters. It is a welcoming space designed for multiple uses, dedicated to exchange, creativity, reflection, and meetings between clients and agents. The gallery will also feature the work of artists in residence at Marfret, including those on board the “Marius” as part of the partnership with Villa Albertine.
